The fact that its a game, or the fact that its from Japan, or its fictional characters, or you choose your own path, are not excuses to take the context of rape lightly. There are more than a handful of active posters here who absolutely decry at any implied justification of rape. Not to mention there is a fairly big audience for this who have rape fantasies.I think youre really fanning the flames of potential angry, ranting replies with this one. Heroine Getting rapedFirst of all, i think rape is a common theme in any R-18 material, But since this is an Otome game, where you have lots of choices and lots of routes, blame no one but yourself for picking the wrong one. Or maybe they are, who knows.TBH, if a game i was playing ended up completely insane like the stuff she mentioned for absolutely no reason other than sex appeal or whatever, with no ties to the story or being completely out of characters, id be annoyed too and probably stop playing. But i guess its how you use itPast. Im sure that in some cases what she is saying is correct but i really dont think a MAJORITY of these games would be like that. Hell i wouldnt know the fine details about Otome games (not being the target audience) but in general i think people get too worked up about this sort of thing. In my opinion, if it fits the story and is done tastefully or rather makes sense in the context, an author is free to do what he pleases with the game. Its like.throwing some random bad end scene from Comyu (akatsuki game. I dont expect the rape and humiliation and what not on the good route (unless Im doing an Alice Soft or Akatsuki game or something, fine, but I KNOW that going into those games cause those companies are just like that). Its got this cutesy school setting and beginning and characters but everythings so out of (normal) order. If it were an eroge, I would have quit. Its like, for an eroge I know what path Im on, what kind of game (pure love, kinks, whatever) Im getting, and if Im heading for a good end or bad end.īut this game had like, ALL the bad stuff on route to the good end and then we were both kinda annoyed at that so we went back to try the other routes and what the hell. I might be wrong and maybe theres a game that proves both of us wrong or something). I kinda agree with everything she says (ONLY ONE GAME THOUGH. I remember my friend actually had the same complaint and if you look at Japan in general, its pretty misogynistic, so I cant say Im surprised its like that.Besides, eroges arent a good counter-example here.įor every game thats filled to the brim with nothing but fetish bait, there are games that are focused on pure love (Keys games), story and action (Type-Moon), drama (Midori), or some others that mix everything (have I mentioned Akatsuki Works is awesome Themes that explore the value of betrayal, friendship, rivalry along with kickass music and action and.gets off topic.).Actually, Ive done a speed run with my girl friend of an R-18 otome game (and only one) and I really didnt like it. Otome games like Chou No Doku Hana and Akazukin To Mayoi Mori brought up the deepest topics in terms of psychology, things that light-hearted otome games dont usually bring up.Thats why I was wondering if any of you share my opinion or often play those r18 games, because I somehow feel lonely in there.īesides, I think youve got a few of her arguments wrong. From what I can tell, her complaint isnt so much that that stuff exists, its the fact that shes trying to find an R-18 game that has a nice story and isnt just about rape and stuff. Its not always about the ecchi scenes or anything, but also the way they use mature stories, cases and scenarios and somehow toy with your mind like mad. I truly love the normal innocent genres of the otome industry, but sometimes, I also like to move towards a much more unique category. I cant think of any others off the top of my head that are available in english, outside of Les Fleursword.
